Information about the national identification number
The Luxembourg national identification number is a unique and personal identification number, assigned by the State in accordance with the law of 19 June 2013 on the identification of natural persons for each registration in the National Registry of Natural Persons.
It is necessary to have a national identification number (social security number) in order to be able to complete certain administrative formalities with the public administrations in Luxembourg.
Each person registered in the National Registry of Natural Persons has a right of consultation and rectification of data concerning him- or herself in accordance with the law of 19 June 2013 on the identification of natural persons.
